I spent the past weekend at the OSP West conference in Seattle. Over the course of two days, I had the unique opportunity to lead three groups of photographers throughout Seattle and guide them in posing and working with three terrific senior models. Below are some of the images I took of our models, Nyema, Jesse, and Alicia. I also enjoyed listening to several inspiring photographers talk on subjects ranging from exploring light to destination photography. Many of them were at the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International Convention I went to in Vegas a couple of months ago.

If that wasn’t enough, I took advantage of a PPA Super Monday course in Olympia with Kari Blunk and Ben Leavitt learning the ropes of lighting and posing. Kari is a fantastic senior portrait photographer and just won “photographer of the year” at the Professional Photographers of Washington convention. Ben is a lighting and photoshop guru. I learned about these small one day PPA workshops from Angie at Click Chicks, a small group of female photographers down in Tacoma. I was able to carpool down to Olympia with Mark, a portrait and editorial photographer in Bellingham. During the workshop, I enjoyed a hands-on experience with outdoor lighting in bright daylight as well as portrait studio lighting, posing, and much more.

All in all, this has been an inspiring weekend and I have a lot of wonderful ideas to employ!

Currently seeking models

Every year we select a limited number of outgoing high school juniors to be our senior models. If you are willing and able to promote our studio to friends and family throughout the school year, then keep reading! We are currently seeking 2010 graduating seniors to be this year’s Senior Frame selected models. You must contact us before the end of April, and be available to complete your session before May 15th in order to be eligible. Models will be limited to two per school.

As a senior model, you will be treated “top” model style and receive the following:

a 2 hour photo session (at studio, surrounding areas, and one location)
professional make-up and hair
color, black and white, sepia, and split toned images
set of referral cards featuring your images
purchase credit for each referral you send our way
selection of web-sized images and a slideshow for Facebook
choose to enter the SPA National Model Competition! (+ $100 entrance fee) what’s this?

Senior models simply hand out as many referral cards as possible to friends and family and only promote Senior Frame Photography. Images from your session will be featured on our website, blog, Facebook, MySpace and other various marketing materials. As most of our applicants are under the age of 18, we require one of your parents/legal guardians be present to review the requirements of our program and sign our model release/waiver. We need to know that you are serious about helping promote our studio, so a small committal deposit of $100 is required on the day as your photo shoot. This package normally requires an $800 minimum purchase! If you refer just 2 friends to us, we will return the deposit. For each referral beyond that, you will receive a $50 studio gift card.

As a spa member, we will have the opportunity to enter some of our seniors for a chance to be one of the fifteen lucky finalists chosen to be spa models! Everyone who enters will get 10 comp cards and be added to the national spamodels.com website. If selected, you will get an all expense paid trip to the Del Coronodo resort in San Diego (Jan 2nd-5th), a large portfolio of images, and new friends and fun memories to last a lifetime. You will get to participate in a fashion show and modeling shoot. And there’s more… modeling scouts be there and a few past spa models have even launched full modeling carrers from this experience! How do you enter? All seniors that select our “model” package will be entered at no charge.
